DEC 13 - COX BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL
Brad Cox made his long awaited return to the drivers seat yesterday, following a 10 week lay of due to injuries he sustained in a horrific wreck in his dirt midget.  Hickory Motor Speedway was the venue for Cox to get back behind the wheel, with a 3 hour test session for Tom Pistone and the Performance Motorsport Team in a NASCAR Late Model.

Although temperatures were in the mid 40's, the team put down approximately 150 laps, in 4 separate stints. Brad did an impressive job, turning consistent laps. "It only took Brad 10 laps to get up to race pace, and he was turning very impressive and consistent lap times" Tom Pistone commented after the test.

All attention now turns to building a new Midget for the upcoming 25th Anniversary CHILI BOWL NATIONALS which are scheduled for January 11-15 in Tulsa Oklahoma.

DEC 07 - COX CLEARED
Doctors have cleared Brad to return to racing, following 10 weeks on the side line  due to injury. Brad suffered head and neck injuries in a horrific accident at Big Diamond Speedway whilst competing in an ARDC Midget event, which totally destroyed his Shetron Manufacturing backed machine.

"Fantastic" was the reaction from Cox. The team is now frantically scheduling some NASCAR test days before the winter sets in. The team is also rushing to get a new Midget assembled in time for the major indoor races, including the CHILI BOWL, where Cox will make his second appearance.

SEP 8 - WILD RUN AT HICKORY SPEEDWAY

Wow!!! What a weekend it turned out to be for the whole Brad Cox Motorsport team.

Brad was pushing hard in practice for this two day event and was showing great pace against the seasoned veterans before he had a spin and hit the outside turn 1 wall. "There is a very fine line between the limit and stepping over that limit, the car was great and I was really trying hard to get the most out of it. It looks like I tried just a little bit too hard and the car just didn't stick" said Brad after the incident.

The AG Motorsport crew worked hard to get the Toyota back into shape before qualifying. Brad turned a good qualifying lap that put him in the 12th place starting position for the race. "I would like to have been able to start in the top 10 but I think given the practice time we lost due to the crash 12th is not too bad. I feel like we have a good car for the race"

After a strong start Brad was moving up through the field and passing for 10th position when he was tapped from behind causing him to crash in turn 4. The resulting damage from the contact was a broken front brake line so the AG motorsport crew went to work and clamped the left front brake closed. Brad had to restart from the rear of the grid and made it all the way back into 12th position before becoming an innocent victim of someone else's crash. With nowhere to go Brad hit the turn 4 retaining wall hard once again badly damaging the right front of the car. The AG Motorsport crew set to work race taping the heavily damaged front of the car back together. The impact also caused the clutch to give up, forcing Brad to restart from the back of the field in 4th gear. On lap 102 Brad suffered a flat right rear tire requiring another trip down pit road for the 06 Toyota. The AG Motorsport crew did a fantastic pit stop with Brad only losing 1 lap to the leaders. Finally a little luck went Brads way on lap 122 with a caution period that allowed Brad get the "lucky dog" free pass putting him back on the lead lap.

With 20 laps to go Brad drove through the field and managed to secure a top 10 finish in a race that provided many challenges. "Wow what a day exclaimed Brad after getting out of his battered and beaten racecar, that certainly didn't go to plan but we still managed a top 10. I am very happy and thankful to the team they worked very hard today on pit road and were the reason we were able to achieve this solid result."

AUG 22 - BRAD BACK IN ACTION AT SOUTH BOSTON

Young Australian Brad Cox was in action again this past Saturday night at the Famous South Boston Speedway.

Driving the Shetron Manufacturing backed 06 Toyota Camry Cox was impressively quick in practice, ending up 12th overall. Unfortunately Brad got loose off turn 4 in his qualifying run, and could only manage a 24th Starting position.

Brad missed the "normal" early race wreckage, which came about in turn 1 of the first lap. However, he was not so lucky on lap 12, when a fellow driver backed his machine into the turn 1 wall, and then rolled back down the track. Brad had nowhere to go, with cars to his inside. Contact was made on the right front resulting in significant damage. Several trips down pit road to made repairs, Cox lost 2 laps. The crew did a great job and Brad rejoined the race in last position. With a damaged car Bradidne a good job and ran the next 112 laps without incident. However Brad's bad luck returned when on lap 128 of the scheduled 150 his right front rim exploded, sending the Aussie up the track, making heavy contact with the #3 of Lee Pullium, putting them both out. Cox would finish in 19th position.

"Very unfortunate that we got into the early wreck" Cox stated following the event, " but I am more upset that we got into Lee tonite. He had a fast car and was going to win, and our parts failure took that away from him"

Brad has this weekend off, and then the team have decided to contest the twin 100 event at Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia on the 28th August.

AUSSIE BACK ON DIRT - posted  9 August, 2010

Young Australian Brad Cox made his first start on dirt in 2 months at Dixieland Speedway, Nth Carolina in the #94 Shetron Manufacturing backed Midget. Brad's busy schedule with his NASCAR late model team had curtailed dirt racing recently, but he made the most of the NASCAR off week to go play in the dirt. Brad started his heat race from the rear, due to being late to the drivers meeting, but the talented Aussie still finished 3rd.

In the A MAIN Cox was forced to start down the back, due to his lack of recent competition with the touring Midgets. On a tricky track Brad had a blast, passing cars at will in turns 1 & 2 with brilliant "slide jobs" and then running the high high line in turns 3 & 4, blasting past the outside of his more fancied rivals.

By the fall of the checkers the young Aussie had climbed from the rear to 6th position. " The car was really good. It took the heat race to remember how to drive these awesome machines, and my crew gave me a car that was as fast as anyone out here tonight" Cox stated post race. " We had a car good enough to win, we just needed to start a bit closer to the front, or even another 25 laps" laughed Cox.

Next week Brad is back driving the #06 NASCAR Late Model @ South Boston Speedway

COX FAST  AT SOUTH BOSTON - posted  28 July, 2010

16-year-old Australian sensation Brad Cox entered his second race in the NASCAR Whelan All American Late Models at South Boston Motor Speedway in Virginia this past Saturday. With Qualifying being abandon due to emergency track repairs necessary, Cox was hoping that the field would be set on the recorded times from the practice session, in which the rookie clocked 11th fastest time.

Unfortunely that was not to be, as the track officials decided to line the cars up by the current point standing positions.  Cox, who had never competed at South Boston before, was forced to start at the rear of the field.  Cox made hisintensions clear at the drop of the green, as he blasted past 5 cars in the first 4 laps and in doing so set the fastest lap of the race.  However, that was as good as the night would get when a turn 3 crash in front of Brad involving 5 cars blocked the entire track and left him with nowhere to go, crashing heavily. This was the first race for the new #06 Shetron Manufacturing Ford Fusion which unfortunately sustained substantial front-end damage in the crash and ended Cox’s night early.

“It’s just one of those deals that happens, when you are forced to start at the rear you have a far greater chance of getting involved in someone else’s mistake” Cox said after the crash, “this was a brand new car that the AG Motorsports team had built for me, and now it is junk.  I feel disappointed for all the guys at the shop, my crew chief David Adams spent a lot of time building this car and it was super fast”

Cox stated that AG Motorsports would pull out the backup car for next week’s 200-lap event at Motor Mile Speedway. “Our backup car is awesome, so we will run it next week, and try and keep it in one piece”

NASCAR LATE MODEL DEBUT AT THE MOTOR MILE - posted  28 June, 2010

Brad made his Nascar Late Model debut on Saturday night at the “Motor Mile Speedway” in Fairlawn Virginia. Brad Cox Motorsport has teamed up with Late Model Nascar team AG motorsport from NC. The A of AG motorsport is Dave Andrews who is a renowned Nascar crew chief who has been involved in Nascar for for the past 25 years, 6 years as driver, and the 19 as a crew chief and car chief in both Nationwide and the Sprint cup series. Dave has worked for super teams like Dale Earnhardt Inc, Roush Racing and was part of the 2004 championship winning team with Kurt Busch. Dave’s resume speaks for itself with over 100 wins in the Nascar ranks as a crew and car chief.

Doug Godsey is the G in AG Motorsport and he owns a successful construction company in Richmond Virginia, Doug has raced himself for 15 years and has over 30 wins in a Nascar Late Model division.

“I got an opportunity to do a test on some old tyres on Friday at the Motor Mile, it was hard to really get a indication of how we were compared to the competition as they were all running new tyres, it did help me familiarize myself though with the track and the massive task ahead...my first Late Model Nascar race. We qualified terribly as I had not practiced qualifying runs and had no idea what to expect from the car, I went deep into turn 1 and the car didn’t stick, pushing up the track we could only manage 26th starting position. This was a big event with the current series champion and multiple track champions competing so there would not be much time for my learning curve if I wanted to stay on the lead lap. We have two races of 100 laps each. As the green flag flew for the start of race 1 it was the best feeling in the world! I was out there and I was doing it, racing Nascar for the first time, this is something I have dreamt about for a very long time. Anyway back to the action, I managed to miss a lot of the banging and crashing in the early laps picking off the cars in front of me one by one. I was concentrating so hard the race was a blur, by the end of it I managed to move up 14 positions and finished 12th which I was really happy with. We would start from 12th position on the grid for the second 100 lap event later in the night. We had to run the same tyres from race 1 in race 2 so not long into the second race the guys that had not completed full race distance in the first race started coming from the back of the field with their better tyres. I got hit from behind and spun early on by some guy, I managed not to hit anything but got send to the back of the longest line for the restart as I was deemed the cause of the yellow flag. Dave got on the radio shouting Green, Green, Green for the restart,  the leaders were taking the green flag I was just coming out of turn 2. There is so much going on in short track racing you just don’t get a seconds rest, we eventually got passed by the leaders after the restart and then we got the “Lucky Dog” free pass so we got our lap back. I had started to get into a groove and move forward through the field when the car started to slow, unfortunately we had a battery or alternator problem only 10 laps from the end so we had to pull into the pits and call it a day as the car wouldn’t rev over 2000 rpm.

My goal was to finish 200 laps in my first race and we finished 190, I am a little disappointed getting so close but all in all I think we did a good job as a team. The good news is we get to do it all again next Friday in a 100 lap feature race at South Boston Speedway in Virginia. Dave and I are going testing mid week so we will focus on my qualifying set up and do some more race miles before Friday night.” - Brad Cox

JUN 15 - COX THIRD PLACE  AT SUSQUEHANNA

After many days and long hours the Brad Cox Motorsport team finally got their car running at 3pm yesterday afternoon. "It has been a frantic few days fitting our new motor". They made the dash to Susquehanna speedway forty minutes down the road from their hometown. In his first heat Brad was able to finish a solid fourth place, which was good enough to place him directly into the 12 car inversion for the A main feature race.

With a bit of luck going Brad's way in the draw he started on the outside front row. At the drop of the green Brad blasted to the lead and started to pull away from the field. The first stoppage for the night was on lap 8, on the restart Brad again drove away from the field to command the race. With several more quick caution periods, which kept eliminating Brad's lead.

On the lap 14 restart Brad realized that his early pace had worn out his rear tyres, and he would have to his best to hang on to the lead. First to attack was Steve Buckwalter who has already won at this track 4 times in 2010.  Steve piled on the pressure and managed to get passed Brad on lap 16 for the lead. Last years champion Frank Polameada was next in line and was able to take advantage of the slipping and sliding car of Brad's. This meant Brad was relegated to third, Brad hung on over the closing stages of the race and finished third place against this extremely tough field of cars.

Starting on Tuesday night Brad will be racing the famed Speedweek in Indiana. We will keep you posted on how Brads progress throughout the week.

JUN10 - AMBROSE GIVES YOUNG AUSSIE NASCAR TEST

Australian NASCAR hero Marcos Ambrose has given young Australian driver Brad Cox his first taste of a NASCAR in a Marcos Ambrose Motorsport Late Model division car at Hickory Speedway.

Cox, 16, drove a new MAM Late Model car at the famous short track yesterday as he edges closer to a future in the NASCAR competition. Marcos Ambrose Motorsport is co-owned by Ambrose and fellow Tasmanian racer Owen Kelly, who is also in the United States at present and will race for Jack Daniel's Racing in the V8 Supercar endurance events later this year.

Cox has moved from his hometown in Gunnedah, NSW to pursue a racing career in America. He has been competing in Midget oval races, as well as completing Year 10 of schooling.

Ambrose was at the test with Cox, who completed 120 laps in hot conditions.

The two-time V8 Supercars champion, now racing for JTG Daugherty Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, said that Cox did a good job in his first test with his team.

"Brad definitely has no fear in a race car," Ambrose said.

"He did an awesome job, truly amazing. He has heaps of speed and a he's a great talent.

"All you have to do is look at what Brad did in the Chilli Bowl (in a Midget) to know this guy's got real talent."

Cox was pleased with his first run in the car.

"This is fantastic, I love it," he said.

"Marcos was great, he took me for a couple of laps of the track in his road car and showed me the fastest lines to take."

Marcos Ambrose Motorsport crew chief Dave Adams said that Cox has what it takes to make it to the top.

"I have worked with young drivers that have made it all the way to Sprint Cup and honestly Brad has got more ability for his age than I have ever seen in any driver," Adams said.

Cox returns to his Midget this weekend, competing at Tri City Speedway, St Loius.

JUN 08 - MARCOS  AMBROSE TO TEST 16 y/o  AUSSIE BRAD COX

As drivers from around the world called Marcos to ask his advice on how to make it into NASCAR an idea was born: Marcos realized a clear-path system was needed for drivers to realize their ultimate potential and maximize the possibility of landing one of the few seats available in NASCAR. Young Australian driver Brad Cox will have that opportunity this Tuesday with his firsttest for Marcos Ambrose Motorsport (MAM) in one of the teams new NASCAR late model division cars at the famous Hickory Speedway.

What makes this opportunity even more special for Brad and his family is they have all moved from Gunnedah in NSW, Australia all the way to Pennsylvania, USA to live.

"We wanted Brad to have the best opportunity to gain the experience it takes to make it to the top of this very tough sport, This is where you have to be if you want to make a name for yourself and have a chance" - Michael Cox

Team owner Marcos Ambrose will also be at Hickory Speedway for the test with Brad. He will be there as a driver coach and to offer Brad advice where needed as well as keeping a keen eye on how Brad handles his first experience in a NASCAR.

"All you have to do is look at what Brad did in the Chili Bowl to know this guy's got real talent" - Marcos Ambrose

"I am very excited about the opportunity to test that Marcos has given me with his team. Marcos is someone I admire, he is the guy that came from the other side of the world, stepped out of his comfort zone and put it all on the line to follow his dreams and desire to race NASCAR and he made it a reality. I have those same goals and aspirations, I really want to achieve in NASCAR and be where Marcos is one day." - Brad Cox

JUN 01 - PODIUM IN PENNSYLVANNIA FOR AUSSIE COX

Brad Cox this weekend has sounded a warning to his competitors in the USA that he means business. Brad at age 15 moved from his hometown in Gunnedah NSW to follow his dream and take the next step to becoming a professional racecar driver. Although this year didn’t start as planned when on March 20th during a pre season test the driveshaft exploded between his legs, smashing his left foot and ankle in multiple places.

After a long eight weeks of rehabilitation Brad stood tall last weekend with a strong third place finish at Penn Can Speedway which is located in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. Having never seen the track prior to unloading the car, Brad and his father Michael had no idea what to expect from the track or the huge field of 36 of the countries best Midget drivers who unloaded for the show, this was going to be a tough event!

Brad finished second in an action packed heat race, which promoted him directly into the A-Main feature. With a bit of luck on his side, he started from the pole when they inverted the top six starters.

“We got a solid start but with our lack of knowledge at the track we had the car set up way too tight for the start of the race and I dropped back to sixth position pretty quickly,” Brad admitted.

By mid race though the #94au of Cox started to come alive and he started his charge back towards the front, with eight laps to go Brad was in fifth position and hot on the heels of the fourth placed car.

“Just as we started to come on strong, the other guys started crashing into each other and bringing out the caution flags, that didn’t really help us as our car needed a couple of green flag laps to really get up to speed.”

With just a couple of laps to go Brad made some great moves on drivers with decades more experience and managed a fantastic third placed finish just behind seasoned pro’s Steve Buckwalter and Ryan Smith. This is Brad’s first podium finish in the tough Midget Car Series, in just his debut season in the category

“Obviously I came here wanting to win as did the other 35 guys, but I am really happy with third tonight and we showed these guys that we are not here for a holiday!”

MAY 10 - MOTHER NATURE WINS AT THE GROVE

Brad Cox was back at the famous Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday night, planning on continuing his excellent return from injury. With a great run last week which seen the young Australian climb from 26th to 9th in the A MAIN, Cox was confident of another strong run at the super fast half mile.

Starting out of position 11 in the second heat, Cox made easy work of making the top six A main transfer, finishing a comfortable 5th.

Unfortunately the rain came in, and track officials were left no choice but to abandon the event prior to the A MAIN, which will now be held on the 10th July.

Cox and the team are now focussed on Grandview Speedway this coming Saturday with the ARDC, before heading to the mid west to contest some USAC events.

MAY 05 - SOLID RETURN BY COX

Aussie BRAD COX made a solid return to racing this past Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania USA. Returning from a severely broken ankle and foot only 6 weeks ago, Cox defied doctors advise and strapped himself in the #94AU Shetron Manufacturing Midget.

Due to his "rookie" status, Cox was forced to start all races from the rear, thus qualifying for the A MAIN still had to start from the rear in position 26. Cox made his intentions clear from the outset, and was awesome in heavy traffic. By lap 17 the talented teenager had blasted by 17 cars, and was up to 9th position. With 2 red light stoppages, as well as several cautions periods, the only blemish on a stella return was that Cox would run out of fuel with only  3 laps remaining.

"We had a great run tonight. The car was fast. It is great to be back racing. The foot is a bit sore, but it will be O.K. We will be back here (Williams Grove) next Saturday, and we will have enough fuel", Cox stated after the event.

APR 22 - COX SET FOR RETURN

Just 6 weeks after a horrific driveline failure than resulted in a severely fractured ankle and foot, Aussie Brad Cox is set to return to racing this coming Friday night.

Cox has undergone intensive treatment, which has resulted in a faster than expected recovery.  Still undergoing treatment 2 to 3 times a week, Cox admits he is not 100%, but is confident he "can get the job done".

This weekend will see the talented teenager competing at the famous Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, and again on Sunday at Big Diamond Speedway. Ironically Big Diamond is the venue where Cox sustained the injuries that have had him sidelined.

MAR 23 - BRAD INJURED

Brad was injured yesterday (Sunday ) whilst practicing at Big Diamond Speedway, Minersville PA in his Midget.

Brad was out on his third, and what was scheduled to be his last, practice session of the day. Coming out of turn two on the final lap of the session Brad’s car suffered a severe mechanical failure that resulted in the entire driveline disintegrating between Brad's legs and feet. He was helped from the car in severe pain and rushed to the nearby hospital for examination. Whilst Brad only suffered bruising to his right leg and foot, he has suffered a severely broken left foot and left ankle. The Orthopaedic surgeon at the hospital has realigned his left ankle today, and placed his leg in a cast. Brad will require X-rays in four weeks time to determine if the fracture is healing correctly.

For now Brad will have to put his 2010 Speedway assault on ice for a couple more weeks and rest while he recovers from his injuries. He is in good spirits considering and has already asked the question to Michael if he can fit the cast inside his race suit. “We will do everything possible to ensure Brad's 100% recovery, and are hoping and praying for good news in four weeks time from the doctors,” Michael said.

JAN 20 - CHILI BOWL  A HUGE SUCCESS

Today (19 Jan, 2010) BRAD COX is back in school, bathing in the outstanding success he has achieved at this years CHILI BOWL NATIONALS. "Over achieving" is the only way to describe the past week.

With only 8 race laps in a MIDGET, many outsiders thought that COX was crazy to enter the "superbowl" of speedway racing. And yet the young  teenage sensation from Gunnedah, AUSTRALIA, who is now residing in Pennsylvania, took on the best speedway drivers in the world, and definately showed he has got the ability to succeed in this demanding sport.

JAN 16 - COX MAKES 'A MAIN'

In his first ever CHILI BOWL event, and a veteran of a total of only 8 laps in the mighty midgets, young Australian teenage sensation BRAD COX drove his way into Wednesday nights “A MAIN” at the famous event.

Starting of the back row of the second heat, Cox managed to work his way into 4th position by the end of the 8 lap journey. 6th highest points scorer after the heat races, COX was scheduled to start his qualifier event from inside the third row. However, unable to engage his rear axle prior to any cars being pushed off, track officials beckoned Cox’s crew to the track to engage the rear. At the amazement of the huge crowd on hand, COX was then relegated to the rear of the field, for receiving assistance, even though not one lap had been turned. Cox showed a cool head and put in an amazing drive to climb from 10th to 5th in the 10 lap qualifier. Now faced with a 6th starting position in  the “B” the young Aussie again displayed ability beyond his youth and experience, driving the highline “on the wall” to a well deserved third, thus earning his spot in the “ A MAIN”

With no time to make any significant adjustments or repairs prior to the MAIN EVENT, COX was forced to make the best of what he had, including a bent front axle from the ‘B MAIN’ . Starting from 25th position the talented youngster put on an amazing display, driving into the 15th spot by mid race. However, with his tyres “used up” Cox faded in the closing stages and finished in the 21st position.

This excellent result has earned the young Australian a starting spot in the “D MAIN” on Saturday. “ We had no idea of what to expect, as we had only ever ran 8 laps in a midget” Cox stated after the A MAIN, “but we were hoping to at least make the ‘F MAIN” as this would mean we had beat more than half of the 270 odd cars here. To make the A MAIN was unbelievable, so we are really looking forward to Saturdays events to see if we can climb our way into the MAIN EVENT”

Brad Cox Motorsport would like to thank Terry Shetron of Shetron Equipment and Shetron Manufacturing. Without Terry’s support this trip would not have been possible.
