JANUARY 21 - DISAPPOINTING NIGHT

From the outset, young hot shoe BRAD COX was in for a tough night at the 26th annual Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa Oklahoma. With a starting position deep in the first heat race of the night, and a one lane race track, Cox, like every other competitor, found passing basically impossible.

With no passing points gained, COX would find himself starting deep in the field of the C main. Needing to finish in the top 4, COX raced to the final transfer spot on the initial start. Following a caution on lap 2, COX was primed to take advantage of the restart, and drove into an opening in turn one which could have gave him the lead. It was not to be, with the 3rd starting car pushing up the track making heavy contact with the 94AU of COX. Although driving away from the contact, it was obvious that the Australians car has damage. A quick inspection by his crew found a broken right rear torsion bar stop, and although the crew tried frantically to make repairs to enable the young Aussie to resume, time was not on their side.

“Really upset at the result tonight” Brad stated in the pits, “I knew it would be tough in the heat race to pass. Even Hines (Tracy Hines) who started in front of us in the heat race ended up in the C main with us. And then we just plain ran out of luck in the C main. I had a car good enough to win the C, and I am confident we could have made it through the B main to the A main.”

“I have had some good runs here in Tulsa, but we just need to get some good luck to go with the good runs. I will be back next year, this event is awesome”.

JANUARY 1 - LAST MINUTE CHANGES

With the CHILI BOWL Midget Nationals only 1 week away, Brad Cox and his team have been thrown a curve ball. After significant funds had changed hands 2 months ago, and then Brad & crew chief driving 20 hours from North Carolina to New Jersey this past week end to do the final set up on the  car COX was slated to drive, car owner Rick Wean has backed out of the arrangement, stating “my son will now be driving the car”.

With only days to get something in place, BCM have been able to come up with a super deal with DAUM MOTORSPORTS. “We made many phone calls New Year’s Eve, to try and find a good car” Michael Cox stated today, “We were blown away that Wean cancelled the arrangement that we had. But we have been able to come up with a car way more competitive. Zach Daum, of DAUM MOTORSPORTS, has given Brad the opportunity to drive one of his potent Esslinger powered EAGLE race cars. These cars are awesome, and we are really looking forward to racing with Zach and his team”.

Ironically, this deal will see the young Australian driving a car with an EAGLE Chassis. Eagle Chassis are owned by Australian Bill Mann, of Performance Wholesale.

Cox will now contest his prelim. Event on Thursday, rather than Wednesday.
